Geographically Sandhutton is situated in the middle of North Yorkshire.  The Dales on one side and the Moors on the other provide stunning countryside, enchanting market towns, culture, music, crafts, food, architecture, history and much more.

Thirsk (3 miles) is our local town, famous for James Herriot, with its Race Course, market (Monday and Saturday), skilled furniture makers, fishing lakes, falconry centre, Carlton Outdoor Education Centre, and Austin Reed Outlet shop.  There is an excellent swimming pool with gym, a golf course and a cinema operated by local volunteers.  Various music and arts festivals pepper the year and there are lots of lovely walks.  Close by are Rievaulx Terrace, Byland Abbey, The Mouseman, Sutton Bank National Park Centre which runs various events for adults and children and Aerial Extreme.

The City of Ripon (8 miles) has a wealth of Georgian and Medieval buildings and the ritual of the Horn Blower is still carried on at the Obelisk and has not been missed for 1100 years.  Ripon Cathedral hosts exhibitions, concerts and lectures.  Close by are Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Park, Newby Hall, and Brimham Rocks.

Vist Harrogate (25 mins) for a Turkish bath, botanical gardens, theatre, good shopping, Betty's Tea Rooms and the Great Yorkshire Show.

York (20 mins by train) has 2,000 years of history crammed into a wonderful city centre.  Visit the Cathedral, the Jorvick Centre, the Shambles and lots more.

There is so much to see and do so whether you want to visit glacial valleys or cheese factories, look at architecture or local crafts, walk and enjoy local food, or just relax in the peace and quiet of our garden, we hope to make your stay memorable and comfortable.
